@disillusioned: why should people who are immune have to continue to wear masks? Don’t you believe that the vaccines work? Or do you believe as one of the leaders of the BLM movement and ally to many Democrats congress members a few days ago to his millions of followers: “it is a vial of death”.

@Jeffro: read across America day was created in commemoration of and on the birthday of Theodore Geisel. The Biden admin “cancelled” Dr. Seuss books from its reading curriculum (which means someone in the Biden admin gave that order, which means there is a statute or directive to this fact somewhere, according to Psaki this was the DOE) and has said “I don't think there is any danger in ignoring a debate on Mr. Potato Head and Dr. Seuss”.
By ignoring the debate they aren’t upholding the spirit of the first amendment, by internal order they are removing books that Michele Obama and Melania Trump and other Presidents and First Ladies have had themed parties and book readings with. Sure it’s all fluff and PR but it is indicative of the spirit of this administration.

@Jeffro: you can’t ban Huckleberry Finn or Mein Kampf because the copyright has expired anyone can publish those books. They are definitely and should be used in schools. I know of no right wing schools that ban books, not all religions are right wing, the values of freedom and individual rights core to the conservative political spectrum do not align with many extremists. Centralized control and social conformity such as seen among JWs and Islam are more of a left wing notion. The only reason many Christians tend to vote right is because of singular issues such as abortion and the division of church and state.
The notion of copyright is that they would be used to make a profit for the author before going into public domain as all books were seen as important. If you use extended copyright, well after the author has disappeared, to block the dissemination of information against the authors will and effectively “burn” the book, your copyright should expire.

@Ghost: If your actions infringe on my or other people's natural rights, then it's immoral. Otherwise it isn't. There is no grey area. If you believe taking other people's property is your right, then you are so far gone, you should be jailed and if no government does pursue or cares (which is currently the state in most cities in the US) you have the right to defend yourself.
The laws we enact in the US are primarily NOT about natural rights, but about either the taking away of those rights (which is always immoral) or the regulation of commerce and exchange of goods (for good or for bad). There are no moral laws, laws that aren't immoral can turn out to have immoral or moral effects, but the laws in and of themselves do not create or shape good morality.
And yes, we all "know" our moral rights and duties, they have been encoded in EVERY religious and other long-lasting books because from the beginning of time people have known inherently something is wrong about taking life, property and the pursuit of happiness from others except in the protection of those simple needs. That is not saying the entire set of religious text is correct, but when you distil and find the commonality of things across multiple ancient religions, you'll find that they always turn out to be the same "rules" which turn out to be how people express the inherent/animalistic feeling/drive we have to maintain life, society and the survival of the species.

But government isn't there to tell us what we all know is morally wrong. They are there to carry out justice - after the fact. There is very little government can do for your neighbor to not murder you, they can assign a police officer to every citizen, which would be government overreach, but it's unlikely even that will stop crime.
Likewise with COVID, assigning a mask to everyone did not stop the spread. Facts are that 95% of Americans masked up with or without a mandate, and places like Florida that never had a mandate, had higher rates of masking.
If we had to listen to government, Fauci said not to mask up in March-June 2020, many people did (hence there being a shortage). Masks reduce the spread where there are high incidences of cases. We have a vaccine, it is estimated anywhere between 30 and 70% of the population already has been in contact and thus have developed immunity naturally, people that have gotten sick have immunity.
If you tell people they need to wear a mask and socially distance and stay at home even after a vaccine has been made available to those at risk, why get a vaccine at all? There must be incentive to get the vaccine, not needing a mask is incentive.

@Ghost: In the US firefighters and ambulances are not federally regulated. Typically they are not ran by any government, in few places where it is, you get issues like NYC and other cities where EMT's are uncoordinated, charge extraordinarily high rates and have to wait in line up to 30 minutes to bring in their patients to government-ran hospitals.
Privately owned public hospitals, volunteer and professional ambulances and firefighters in the US that are independent from government oversight are the reason we have some of the best equipped systems with the best response times in the world, helicopters, designated ambulances specially equipped for stroke and heart attack.
Sure it's "expensive", but the combination of insurance and taxes in the US is still lower compared to the taxes you'll pay in places like Europe.

@jeffro: the problem is exactly the mandates, government telling you what to do and what to wear isn’t healthy.
Masks (N95) do indeed protect YOU from being sick. If you are sick, sneezing in a mask - with the big caveat being it needs to be worn correctly - prevents you from ejecting your droplets further but it doesn’t stop you completely from spreading.
Most people don’t know how to wear a mask correctly, it takes medical students 6 months-1 year to learn how to properly don both N95 (to protect themselves) and surgical masks (to protect others). The majority of people I see do not wear correctly, most people take their mask off to sneeze, scratch their nose etc which makes the mask counter-effective and the data bears this out.
All the tests on mask wearing preventing the spread were done with aerosols, when real world tests were conducted, masks had virtually no effect on particle spread. All the data shows that locked down systems with strict mandates across the world have higher spread and death rates. Compare California, NY and NJ with Florida which never had a mandate; likewise compare Texas pre- and post-mandate, government interference (as usual) makes things worse.
The problem is through the unscientific mandates, mask wearing has become a religious practice, if you’re woke enough you even do it while driving in your car and when you’re at home (yes, that’s a thing). But for the population, it’s a form of government control as it is scientifically proven to be counter effective.

Didn't they already move all the assets out of Australia though? I thought I read something about that here.
What will happen is that they'll get the claims, file for bankruptcy and that will be it. The congregations will be restarted under a different corporation.

@Jeffro: You said: If they actually endorsed the training course in question, they would have no reason to deny it.
You said later "it was the course that was removed rather than just one slide from it"
So if they didn't endorse the training after the fact, why did they endorse the training in the first place? If I want to offer training to my company, and I brand it with my logo or provide my employees with a link, doesn't that imply that I reviewed and endorsed ALL the training that is under the branded site? If you get a vague statement from your boss to complete this mandatory training and the link contains a bunch of modules, that may or may not be mandatory from corporate, and you do them anyway because it's under the same link, doesn't that imply that they were at least believed to be mandatory.
If not, again, this may be a rogue manager or VP deciding they make things mandatory without input from legal and the C-suite. In that case, Coca Cola should DENOUNCE the practice, heads should roll, but nobody is doing that either because if you DENOUNCE DeAngelo's training, you are considered a racist and should be cancelled.
To give you a comparison: it's well known that the WTBTS keeps lists of sex offenders. When this came out, they said, well our "congregations don't keep lists of sex offenders" and if authorities then happen to find a file in a red folder that the secretary of the congregation has "the WTBTS did not endorse this congregation keeping a list of sex offenders" which is true but a lie of omission, per WTBTS instructions the sex offender has to be passed onto WTBTS HQ and the records in the congregation destroyed. But we all know some elders either don't know about this guidance or don't want to give up control over their own little kingdom and thus keep records the WTBTS doesn't want you to keep.
By your logic, we have to give the WTBTS a pass and pretend everything is okay because they never publicly stated that they didn't keep a list of sex offenders and any congregation that didn't follow their strict guidelines we have to ignore as well, because WTBTS clearly didn't endorse the independent decision making of it's CO and Elders in the congregations. Also, Elders and CO's that didn't follow the guidelines don't get called out publicly because by doing so you would admit to covering up a bunch of other crap you don't want the public to know about.
We all know that is BS, everything that happens in WTBTS-land is controlled to some extent by WTBTS and they should be held responsible and liable for everything that happens in WTBTS land, which is what courts generally agree in abuse cases but also in employment cases. If your managers decides to sexually harass you and your company doesn't immediately investigate and/or fire the responsible party, they become liable.
Now replace congregation with division, WTBTS with Coca Cola and sex offender with racist training session.I'm giving Coca Cola all the benefit of the doubt here, I'm not accusing Coca Cola of demanding the racist training, but unless they publicly state they have investigated and taken action against those that demanded it, they are liable to the same extent they would be liable for sexual harassment and other issues they decide to cover up. Right now all we have is a statement from Coca Cola with a bunch of weasel words that still leave it sufficiently vague as to whether some or all of the training was mandatory across their entire company. They never denied the accusation it wasn't offered in their official curriculum, regardless of it's mandatory-ness, they actually admitted it was on there but they didn't apologize, they didn't claim it wasn't true that some employees could've interpreted it as mandatory, they have no counter-evidence, including e-mail that said what was and wasn't mandatory because if they did, they would have.
